Post Natal Depression

The symptoms of Post Natal Depression are similar to those of depression. However, Post Natal Depression comes with the added guilt of thinking you should be enjoying being a mum and not wanting to be alone with your baby as you feel that you cannot cope on your own.

Post Nalat Depression can last for weeks or months, and can start anywhere between one to six months after the birth.

You are more likely to suffer from this if you have suffered with depression before, if your baby is unwell or you do not have a supportive network of friends and family to turn to.

If you believe you are suffering with post natal depression, you can talk to your Pharmacist, health visitor or GP.

Antidepressants can be an effective way of treating the symtoms of post natal depression, although some can pass into breast milk so this should be discussed with your GP.
